The Art of Genuine Interest

By Stephen N. A client of mine spent some time together on the phone last night, and a very interesting question came up which I thought I would share. This guys challenge is CLASSIC, and one that I see everyday in the men that I work with. He has a naturally wry sense of humor, and gets flirting very easily. He is very skilled at, dare I say it, cocky & funny. This often leads him to getting phone numbers from women. In fact, he averages (without even trying) a couple of new numbers per WEEK. So, this is done without even trying OK? However, when he phones these women a few days later, they are mildly interested, courteous, but they essentially blow him off. He rarely gets an actual date with them. What the &%$# is happening here? This is a COMMON problem. Well, there is a long answer and a short answer. The short answer is that he is not spending enough time with her. So, I told him, give yourself five more minutes with her, so she feels that she knows you better. But, that is only the beginning. I think we need to realize that women are much more sensitive socially than men. Men often barrel their way through a conversation much like a bull in a china shop. We need to consider what this situation must be like from her point of view. She probably WANTS to believe that she will have a comfortable, enjoyable time with you particularly if she gives you her number. But, unless she feels that comfort while with you, your chances of seeing her again are very slim. She needs to both know a little (not a lot) more about you, as well as she needs to see on some level that you will lead her out of the inevitable awkwardness of a first date. So, when I say take five more minutes with her, I REALLY mean demonstrate to her that you are someone she can trust, and that you have things in common. This all boils down to being comfortable with yourself as well as being genuinely interested in this new person in front of you. If youve only begun this conversation with her because you are interested in sex, your chances of demonstrating a genuine interest are very low because you are only engaged from your loins. Getting laid is a practice which used to engage me, but not anymore been there, done that. My work now is about helping guys understand the nature of attraction, and then how to develop that in themselves in an empowering way. My suggestion to guys is to find some way to discover more about this woman based on what attracted you to her in the first place. Perhaps she has an interesting personal style, or she is wearing something which catches your eye. Even better are the less visible things like energy, posture and radiance. My clients challenge, as well as many others, is how to inquire into this without being overly needy, awkward or just downright weird. Here are some examples of how to ask questions, demonstrating both social confidence as well as an authentic interest in her: I couldnt help but notice that you have a keen eye for color. My sister was a redhead, and also got away with wearing green and orange. She was also into punk rock, so she could get away with wearing really LOUD outfits. Your taste is more subtle, and yet it reall works. Do you work in fashion, or were you just blessed with a sensitive eye? I used to manage a dance company, this was years ago, but I grew to recognize the poise and posture these dancers carried themselves with. They also smoked and drank constantlyamazing right? You have that same body sense dont tell me youre jonezing for a Marlboro just now Both of these comments do a number of things. First, they allow her a glimpse into your world. So, you reveal to her certain aspects of your life which give her a better idea of WHO you are. This is very important, because she has JUST met you and knows nothing about you. If you want to see her again, youll want to do this a lot with her. Remember, she needs to feel some comfort with you. By letting her know who you are, and some elements from your past, you begin to become an actual person to her. Second, these comments are complimentary. Anytime you are getting to know a new woman, you want her to feel GOOD and POSITIVE feelings around you. By complimenting her, in particular on things other than how hot she is, you reveal that you have presence and social confidence. Also, you are inquiring into her background, and the best way to open that door is with a compliment. Third, you are asking about her in ways that are very different from the average guy. These are not the standard buffet of questions women are bombarded with by men in social settings: Where are you from?, What is your sign?, Can I buy you a drinkif you need to use these, you are both not paying attention and lack social confidence. This combo is highly unattractive, and normally leaves guys home alone Well, I hope this helps. Having social confidence is something I will focus on in the future, as a larger concept. For now though, try to see past the surface of the words of these examples, and digest the real SKILLS that I discuss. In my experience, most guys really want a girlfriend and they could care less about playing games. The essence of CEICs work with guys on meeting and dating women is in learning social skills. These skills can translate into any social setting, not just dating. They help guys network, cultivate friendships, and empower their overall social lifestyle. Learning these skills can radically transform a mans ability to meet and socialize with people in any setting. What is commonly missing in a guys repertoire is POWER. By learning the skills, you harness a more organic, authentic power. This is not about pretending to be something that you arent, its about really presenting yourself as you are with intelligence. And He Shall Rule Over Thee

By Susan Godfrey Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire [shall be] to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. ~ Genesis 3:16 This morning I was reading Genesis chapter 3 as my daily Bible study passage. As I read Genesis 3:16, the Lord opened my eyes to something that I’ve been praying about for some timebeing submissive to my husband and living according to God’s ordained headship of a husband over his wife. When God created man and woman, He had planned for wives to feel joyful and blessed by their husband’s headship. But because of Eve’s sin in the garden, instead of being able to enjoy our husband’s headshipto call it a joy and blessingGod mad it to be against our nature. We now are anguished over it and struggle with our husbands over God’s ordained headship. When we go against our nature and submit to our husband’s headship over us, we are also submitting to God. Though we still struggle with it on a daily basis, we must continually remind ourselves that our husbands are our heads. When we are able to do so joyfully, and not with anguish, it shows tremendous spiritual growth on our part. If we are not yet joyful about our husband’s headship, then we must work on our hearts and grow as Christians. God’s original plan was for wives to be joyful and blessed by their husband’s headship; even when it goes against our nature, that original plan can still be achieved! But it requires actually working on being submissive and through prayer and meditation. Christian growth takes time; there is no magic pill! We must start again every day and learn from yesterday’s mistakes. Over time God perfects our flaws and weaknesses. We must choose every day to be joyful instead of anguished; to feel blessed instead of cursed. God plants the seed; it’s our choice whether to nurture it or ignore it. ~ Susan Godfrey is a Christian wife, mom and homemaker. Marriage & Infidelity: Cheating Spouses Can’t Hide Their Affairs From the Truth

By Wendy Allen We all liea world without little white lies would be uncivilized. But 99% of us have told bigger lies in our lifespan. For most of us, lies told in our personal life makes us feel bad. However, we still continue to lie and cheat. Few events cause as much turmoil in a marriage as infidelity, which can reduce a marriage to rubble, shattering trust and creating a breeding ground for insecurity, mistrust and resentment. Most of us have witnessed affairs among people we know, and some of us even have had affairs ourselves. This kind of thing happens in the real world, and it happens all the time. One third of all married couples admit to having cheated on their mates. Let’s not be nave. That’s quite a large number of people taking risks! Affairs begin with two people who find each other interesting and attractive. For whatever reason, the relationship escalates into romance and, finally, into sexual intimacy. People who seek romance and sexual intimacy outside of their primary relationship feel that their relationship is missing something, so they go out and they seek it from someone else. If you feel deep in your heart, that your spouse is lying and being unfaithful to you, here are some ways to be sure. One of the techniques professionals use to tell who is lying, and who is telling the truth is to follow eye movements. Neuro-Linguistic Programming says that when people are constructing imaginary or fantasy images we look up and to the left if we are right-handed and up and to the right if we are left-handed. Think, What color is my Moms hair? Where did your eyes go? Now think, Im an astronaut and when I went to the moon I made a snow-man out of moon dust. Where did your eyes go this time? In the book, Telling Lies by lie-catcher Paul Ekman, he presents his facial action coding system. These are the facial expressions we all use that are hard-wired to the brain and will show up without our conscious control. Charles Bond, a psychologist at Texas Christian University reported that among 2,520 adults surveyed in 6.3 countries, more than 70% believe that liars tend to avert their gazes and/or stutter, touch, or scratch themselves or tell longer stories than usual. If youre spouse is working too many late nights, think about this next time you ask them what their plans are for the night. Although, there has been some research lately that says this analysis is too simplistic to be counted upon, detectives continue to use it along with other tools. There was a story in Outside Magazine about a detective involved in an investigation of a poaching in a national park. He claimed he could tell within one minute if someone was lying. I got very excited and tracked him down to a sub-station in Wyoming. He said that he teaches his skills to trainees in one hour but he wouldnt tell me what they were. Maybe he thought I was a secret poacher (which is hard to be in Santa Barbara) Here are some other ways to tell if your partner or spouse is lying and having an extramarital affair: If their answer to your question is brief, clear, and direct, that is a good sign that it is true. Liars start to elaborate and repeat themselves and sometimes their story or the details change. The more a liar tries, the more you need to worry. An extramarital affair takes a great deal of energy. The lying, sneaking around, and destroying of evidence all take tremendous amounts of energy. The onset of guilty feelings about having the affair, in the first place, further zaps whatever energy the partner having the affair might still have left. And, guess what all this used energy is a complete waste, because liars cannot control the leakage of their true feelings, which run in micro-expressions that last half a second. It is so ordinary, so much a part of our everyday lives and everyday conversations that we hardly notice it. Eye Wrinkles – A Top Professional Model’s Tips

By Jaks Lloyd First you must understand wrinkles Three layers make up skin. The surface, visible layer is called the Epidermis. Under the epidermis lies the middle layer known as the Dermis. Beneath this is the Subcutaneous layer, the third innermost layer. As we age the dermis or middle layer looses its elastic quality. The dermis contains fibres called Elastin and a protein called Collagen, both of which prevent wrinkles and allow the skin to have that young, fresh look and feel. The skin is able to retain moisture and the ability to stretch. As time goes by the dermis gradually loses both Elastin and Collagen, causing the skin to become thinner and less able to retain moisture. The subcutaneous layer also begins to lose the fat that gives youthful skin that pleasant smooth look. Wrinkles around the eyes, known as crows feet, and the brow also become visible due to the contraction of minute muscles just beneath the skin surrounding the area. Age is not alone in causing crows feet and furrowed brows, squinting in poor light or strong sunlight or even uncorrected vision impairment can hasten the wrinkling process. The skins natural oil is called Sebum, and some people will have more and others less sebum and/or collagen, the elastin quality will also vary from person to person so wrinkles can appear at an early age on the unfortunate or be delayed well into middle age. Its all down to genes and lifestyle. My tips to slow down the onset of wrinkles. The first sign of wrinkling is around the eyes. You may look and feel great when you get a sun tan but nothing hastens the appearance of wrinkles than exposure to strong sunlight. You may look wonderfully glamorous with that all over tan but, in time, you will more than likely look prematurely old as your skin withers and creases start to appear around your eyes and on your forehead. Remember that when you first see somebody you both will look into each others eyes so it is important to keep them looking fresh and youthful for as long as possible. So do not be tempted by the sun. Always use a high factor good quality sunblock, at least 20 SPF (Sun Protection Factor) or above (I always use 30 SPF even in late afternoon sun), and re-apply every 2-3 hours. Sunglasses with high quality UV (Ultra Violet) reflecting lenses are an absolute essential and should be worn outside during daylight hours even when grey and murky. Guess what – UV rays can still get through on a dull day. My personal preference is for Polaroid lenses with a coating on the rear to cut down on reflected glare although other types of UV filtering lenses are just as able to do a good job. Fortunately there is a huge choice of glamorous good quality designer shades to choose from. Also bear in mind no sunblock or sunglass lens will block out all harmful UV rays and be particularly aware of the harm sunlight can do when reflecting off snow or water. Lots of models smoke as this is a very stressful occupation. Models often have to attend several castings a day and each time put up with critical comments on their looks and their suitability for the job. Living up to expectations when posing in front of the camera or walking the catwalk after hectic costume changes puts a strain on the nerves and a timely cigarette helps to relieve the tension. However we are all aware that smoking hastens the onset of wrinkles and aging and can shorten our careers. One of the principal effects is that smoking deprives the skin of precious moisture and so hastens the drying out process. Avoid smoky and badly ventilated atmospheres that can also have the same effect. Dont spend too much time in front of a computer screen as this can cause eye strain and squinting. Get an anti-glare filter and remember to keep looking away at least every 15 minutes and focus on another object. Do not be tempted to go to a tanning booth. Although eye protection is provided, the exposure to artificial UV rays can hasten the onset of wrinkling as much as natural sunlight and there is an argument that the damage can be worse. Drink plenty of water. I always carry a bottle of water wherever I go and I know most models do the same. Before going out in the evening I drink a pint of cool water so if I drink some wine it cuts down on that dehydrating effect that alcohol can have and helps to keep you sober. Use a light moisturizer on your face every morning and every night without fail. Pay particular care around the eyes and to avoid stretching the skin use a gentle circular motion with your finger tips. One tip my Mother taught me. Avoid resting your head on your hands as the upward pressure creases the skin particularly around the outside corner of the eye. Professional modeling is just the same as any other career, to be successful you have to work at it. Eventually a models’ looks will go, some will have only a short career others may go on for a lot longer before the inevitable happens. Nine times out of ten the first sign is wrinkling around the eyes and the camera always notices it. The appearance of crows feet signals the onset of aging for all women so it is of the utmost importance to keep the eyes looking young and vital if you value your looks and want to create that great first impression when you meet someone new. Eye contact is first contact. Jaks is a former photographic fashion model. She now lives in Spain and designs websites. Did You Know That Your Body Type May Influence Cellulite?

By Louise Forrest Absolutely every woman has heard of cellulite at some time in their lives. They live in constant fear of developing it, even though it is not harmful to our bodies in any way. The main problem with it is that it looks horrible, and with a lot of negative media coverage, it has quickly become one of the most feared skin conditions with women all around the world. However, not many people actually know that cellulite could be influenced by their body type. In fact, most women do not even know what their body type is. So just how can cellulite be affected by our body type, and who is most potentially at risk of developing it? Cellulite and Our Body Type When thinking of body types, most people think of pear shape, apple shape and hourglass shapes. However, when thinking of cellulite, our body types are described in four ways. These are: Android Type If you have an Android shaped body, you will have broad shoulders as well as muscular limbs. You will not have too much of a waist, and the hips generally do not flare. Most Android types tend to be body building types and they tend to gain weight on their upper body through muscle. This does make them look slightly apple shaped. More male hormones are produced than female ones, and they make quite good athletes usually. Generally if you have an Android type body, you will often crave foods which are high in salt and cholesterol, and the body tends to turn the cholesterol into steroid hormones which is what causes the body building affect. Android types tend to have cellulite on their upper buttocks, their abdominal area, and their trunk, but never on their lower body. Gynaeoid Type This body type is usually fairly curvy and if you do have this type of body, you will have small shoulders and a small waist, with quite curvaceous hips. When you gain weight, it only tends to go on the upper thighs or the buttocks and it generally tends to give a very feminine look. However, this is where the cellulite generally tends to appear the most and it can be hard getting rid of it if you simply stick to a low fat or low calorie diet, as most diets cause you to lose weight in areas you do not need to lose weight from! Generally Gynaeoid types crave foods which are high in both fat and sugar, and if they do have a problem with weight gain, plant hormones are usually better for them as they have a balancing effect on the body which reduces the weight gain. Thyroid Type People, who have a Thyroid body type, generally have fairly long limbs such as long legs and long arms, and they often have a racehorse body appearance. Dancers and models tend to have this body type and they often crave caffeine and nicotine as well as artificial sweeteners. It is not uncommon for Thyroid body types to miss meals, and they do not usually gain weight very easily either. Problems which they do experience however include an unstable blood sugar level which can often cause them to be constantly tired and that is why they crave sugar and stimulants. If you are a Thyroid type you are least likely to develop cellulite, however if it does appear it will often be on either the buttocks or the back of the thighs. Lymphatic Type Lymphatic body types do not generally have a good time of it! They find it easy putting weight on all over the body, and they tend to have a cuddly appearance. A low metabolic rate is what causes easy weight gain and they also tend to have a dysfunctional Lymphatic system which causes fluid retention. This often makes them look bigger than what they actually are. If you do have a Lymphatic body type, you will be prone to severe cellulite and it often makes it hard to see the bone structure in the body. Dairy products are your main cravings and you will avoid exercise as much as possible, both of which cause more weight gain. Cellulite can appear on all areas of the body with this body type. So overall as you can see, your body type does play a big part in where you gain cellulite, if you do gain it at all. Each body type has different metabolic rates and cravings, and some are generally worse than others which can lead to severe cellulite. Apply For Bad Credit Car Loans

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jimmy_Sturo]Jimmy Sturo Are you planning on taking a loan to finance your car but are worried about your bad credit? Are you afraid of the sky-high rates that come with bad credit? The truth is you may have actually been a victim of idle threats from your credit collectors. It is not true that once you have incurred a bad financial record, you are never given a new credit line. Financial institutions will always refer to your credit history as a basis for granting loans, but it does not mean that with a not so stellar financial past, it is certain that they will not grant your car loan. In fact, a car loan is easier to obtain than a credit card, because you can use the car as collateral. If you dont fulfill your monthly financial obligation, the car that you purchased through the loan will be repossessed by the financial institution from which you obtained the loan. If you filed for bankruptcy within 2 years prior to applying for your loan, the interest rates for your loan will be much higher compared to someone who does not have financial problems. Nowadays, you can easily find companies who focus on helping people with a troubled financial background get an approved loan. When you make an application online, they submit your application to other auto finance companies to try to get the best deal for you. Or they will course your application to a direct lender with their own loan program, but this usually works only with dealers. When you get a financing loan from your dealer, make sure to compare the prices you can get from other sources, as there are occasions that the rates from the dealer are much higher compared to other sources. Every Day Should Be Mother’s Day

By Roschelle Nelson “Hi Mom!”. How many times have you heard a television personality, sports star or just about anyone you’ve ever seen on TV say that very statement at some point during an interview or an impromptu pan of the camera? The love and admiration we share for our mother’s is universal. There is no role more paramount than the role of motherhood. It’s unfortunate that most of the time we don’t realize how much love and devotion our mother’s give until we become mother’s ourselves. Someone famous once said, “Having children is allowing your heart to walk outside your body for the rest of your life”. Oh, I know that fatherhood is extremely important as well. However, the mother and child bond transcends all understanding. I’m still amazed at how often my mom knew when something just wasn’t right. She often told me it was a look in my eyes that always gave her a clue that my day hadn’t been as pleasant as I was pretending it had been. A mother is the nurturer, the peacekeeper, the mender, the counselor, the one that keeps it all together no matter what. She wakes before the rest of the family and generally retires after she knows everyone else is settled in for the night. Her many roles are endless. She’s the designated driver for soccer practice, dance lessons, piano recitals, and those awesome Friday night football games. She’s our best friend when she says yes and our worst enemy when she says no. She’s also the greatest psychic ever. How else can you explain how she always knew where everything was! Many things in life have tried to define me. Still, the definition of who I am and the type mother I’ve become rely solely on the amazing and single handed job my mother did with me. To my Mother and the many others around the world, Happy Mother’s Day, today, tomorrow and forever. Roschelle Nelson is the founder of Wah4life.com. Money Saving Tips For Soap Makers and Cosmetic Crafters

By Ololade Franklin The craft of making cosmetics and perfumes at home can be expensive if you are not careful. However, there are many things you can do to save money, while enjoying this great hobby. Here are a few ideas: Save money on containers that you use for your own personal products by recycling the ones you have. To recycle glass or plastic jars and bottles, wash them out with hot, soapy water or run them through the dishwasher. Reuse those small brown and blue glass bottles that you get when you buy fragrance oils and essential oils. When you have finished using up the contents, wash them out and use them to store smaller quantities of essential oils or fragrance oils when you purchase large quantities, or to store your perfume and essential oil blends, or to store small quantities of cosmetic products. For inexpensive and unique cosmetic containers and baskets, visit your local dollar store. I’ve found perfume bottles, sheer organza bags, and gift baskets at the dollar stores in my home town. Inexpensive soap molds can be made from many things around your house. Empty plastic food containers, muffin pans (if they are aluminum use for melt and pour soap or rebatched soap, not cold-process soap), plastic ice trays, or plastic storage containers. Belief from a Christian Perspective

By Corbin Wright ABOUT GOD In determining why Christianity seems to have done so much harm in society (the crusades, the inquisition etc), one has to distinguish between people who have a relationship with Christ, and the institution which calls itself Christian. An institution can never be Christian. Suffering comes about mostly because of the gift God gave us, “free will”, which is the gift that allows us to choose whether to love, or hate, which if the latter is chosen could cause much suffering. Without free will, however, we could not really love voluntarily. And without voluntary love, you just become a robot who cannot possibly love. Also with free will, God chooses to limit Himself as to His power as well as to His foreknowledge of an individual’s future, although He does know the over-all beneficial future of society. As I say, most suffering is caused by our use of free will, but some suffering is also caused by creation limitations, and spiritual warfare (because you can’t see this really taking place, doesn’t mean it’s actually not taking place). But this free will is also somewhat limited for the individual in that one’s free will is greatly influenced by generation after generation of free will decisions made by their ancestors. And from looking at the world around us, one can see that many of these decisions went in the wrong direction. But then how do you know that there really is a God overseeing all this? It’s in the creation. It’s illogical to assume that chance really created rationality, so since we were actually created with a desire for meaningfulness, which is a part of rationality and a creator is always greater than his creation, our creator must be greater in personhood (a God) than we are. And our physical smallness compared to what’s out there in the universe should be no criteria for our importance to God. After all, we do have rationality. Another arguement for God’s existence is that we being imperfect as we all know, but continually striving for perfection, must have developed this idea of perfection from someplace, and the most logical place that we developed this from seems to be from a higher power (a God, for instance). And finally, can you imagine a planet spinning around the universe in perfect unison allowing human life to evolve as it has for as long as it has without completely breaking up with all its earthquakes and volcanoes taking place without a God being in control. So if there is a God, why doesn’t He seem to answer prayer? This is a difficult question to answer, but it’s probably due to the consequences of sin and spiritual warfare taking place around us, although in our prayers one can experience God being with us to comfort and heal us in any of the suffering we’re encountering. The basic function of prayer, however, is to build a faith relationship between God and ourselves, and petitionary prayer is only a small part of this faith relationship. But with petitionary prayer being the crux of the problem as to whether prayer works or not, you can never scientifically prove that petitionary prayer really works, because there are so many interconnected variables to look at in God’s scheme of things. Sometimes prayer seems to work, and sometimes it doesn’t, but here you have to realize our loving God has a much broader perspective as to what is really needed for society’s betterment, than we do while we’re here on earth. And as I said above, you also have to take into account the consequences of sin, and spiritual warfare ABOUT JESUS CHRIST Who is Jesus Christ? According to Christians, Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is also our Savior in that He saved us from our sin by suffering and dying on the cross and being raised from the dead. He was God’s sacrifice for us. It was like perfection saving imperfection. But we actually have to believe in all this so that we can then become wrapped up in our belief, or Jesus Christ, just like a Christmas package, so that when God looks at us, all that He can see is His Son (perfection), or Himself as if He were looking into a mirror. Now how do we know all this? By reading the Gospels. But how do we know that the Gospels are really trustworthy. To go into this, you have to look at the Gospels, not as the literal Word of God, but as historical documents. In doing this, you have to ask certain questions about these documents . 1) Do the documents portray eyewitness accounts. The Gospels do. 2) Do the documents contain irrelevant material not pertinent to the eyewitness accounts? Yes, they do. 3) Do the Gospels contain self-damaging material? Yes, they do. For example, the boldness of some of the women during this time period, and the statement Jesus made from the cross when He cried out” My God, My God, Why have You forsaken Me?” 4) Do all 4 Gospels have a consistency as well as a divergency in perspectives? Yes, they do. 5) Do the Gospels increase their legendary exaggeration? No, they don’t, even though they do have some supernatural events in them. 6) Is there any indication that the writers of the Gospels have an ulterior motive for writing them? No, there isn’t. In fact they could have faced persecution for writing them. 7) Can outside sources from that time authenticate the Gospels? Yes, they can and do. 8) Do archeological findings substantiate many of the Biblical events related to us in the Gospels? Yes, they do. And 9) Were there many opponents of the Gospels at the time that could disprove the Gospels, but couldn’t? Yes, there were. These are all questions that should be asked to determine whether a document has historical merit or not. And if the answers are all in the affirmative, except for questions 5 and 6, then the document has historical authenticity. In this case from the answers given above, the Gospels appear to be authentic historical documents and can be used as historical evidence for the life of Jesus Christ. But there still seem to be many historical discrepencies within the Gospels. This actually can be explained away by realizing that the Gospels were never intended to be a biographical sketch of Jesus Christ, although there was much biographical material contained therein. The purpose of the Gospels was really to convey a message of salvation for the readers. In doing this, the discrepencies then become irrelevent. And finally the authorship and date that the Gospels were written are not essential elements to the credibility as to what the Gospels actually say, although from the Book of Acts it does seem to say that at least the first three Gospels were written before 60 AD, and that the authorship of Luke is almost a certainty, whereas the authorship of the other Gospels are closer to a certainty than not. But the bottom line is that there is enough historical authenticity in the Gospels to make them worth-while reading. As I say, in general, the Gospels are historically reliable, but how about the resurrection? Here too, you have enough historical criteria to indicate that the resurrection actually took place. For instance, 1) There are 5 independent sources to indicate that the event took place (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Paul),with each giving individual eyewitness accounts of the occasion. 2) Jesus’s tomb was empty with His burial clothes neatly folded inside the tomb. This could have been easily checked out at the time by those opposed to the story. 3) The church’s sudden growth a few weeks after the resurrection. 4) The resurrection accounts also have many irrevelant material and some self-damaging material (such as the role of women in the event) that are common to early eyewitness based accounts. 5) There is a total lack of theological reflection in the narrative which is not true for most legendary accounts. 6) The conversion of Paul is unexplained without the resurrection. 7)Paul lists over 500 witnesses to the resurrection (1 Cor 15) who could always be cross-examined. 8) The transformation of the Disciples which was a miracle considering their character before the resurrection. And 9) There is no motive for the authors to fabricate the story. They had nothing to gain, and everything to lose (their lives). Now does the resurrection prove that Jesus was also God Incarnate? No it doesn’t, but if you can take the Gospels as reliable historical documents, you find that Jesus does make such statements in them as, “I and the Father are one”, “If you see Me, you see the Father”, and “He who believes in Me, believes in the Father who sent Me”. This seems to show that Jesus really believed that He was God incarnate. And if the Gospels were fabricated, wouldn’t the story have ended differently before the crucifixion? ABOUT THE BIBLE What about the Bible? Can you believe all that you find in the Bible? But before this question is answered, you have to ask the question as to why God can’t be more obvious in what He really wants from us? The problem here is that even if He were, we probably would want to do our own thing anyway. There are several reasons for this. 1) The impression stupendous events have on us, such as miracles, are never permanent and fade away with time. 2) There are always other explanations available for anything you observe. 3) Divine things are never as clear in this world because of the spiritual warfare going on around us. And 4) God only wants a loving trusting relationship with us, and this requires a moral decision by us, not absolute proof which would require no moral decision having to be made whatsoever. Besides, nothing is ever absolute. Now getting back to the Bible. It’s true that there are some unbelievable stories contained therein, but in a sense, you have to look at the Bible as a baby carriage carrying the baby, whereby the baby carrage can have many defects in it, while the baby cannot, although sometimes it’s hard to distinguish between the two. Also many of these so-called defects are really not defects at all, but a way of making a point allegorically that couldn’t be made more effectively in any other way. After all, the Bible is basically not an historical or scientific book, but a book to show us how we could be redeemed. Now if you consider the Lordship of Jesus as portrayed in the Gospels as authentic, you have to consider the Bible itself as being authentic, because Jesus uses so much of the Old Testament in His teachings In other words, the Gospels’ authenticity lends itself to the authenticity of the rest of the Bible. Besides the Bible seems to have a unity of purpose despite the diversity of its authorship, prophetic, and archaeological accuracy in many instances, and the Bible as a whole has given many people tremendous spiritual uplifts thoughout the centuries. Therefore if you consider the Gospels as being historically authentic, you also have to trust the Bible as a whole in being historically reliable as well. But why so much violence in the Bible, especially in the Old Testament, whereby sometimes whole groups of people are killed under a loving God’s direction? One has to realize that one has to measure one kind of evil against another, especially if the particular evil you want to stamp out is going to interfere with God’s universal plan for redemption Besides, you still have the after-life to sort out what’s right or wrong. But with one authoritative Bible, why do we have so many Christian denominations with different translations and interpretations of the Bible? There are basically 3 reasons for this. 1) Primarily because of the sinfulness of the church, in that, despite the fact that Jesus prayed for unity among His children (John 17), our pride and arrogance insisted on our divisiveness. It’s amazing that Jesus can still minister through this sinful church. 2) Some churches view the authority of the Bible in different ways, such as the Roman Catholic Church which views the Bible, Church Tradition and the Pope as equal in authority, and the Fundamentalists who view the Bible simply as a Supreme Legal Document. And 3) some churches have honest differences of opinion on how to interpret different portions of Scripture, such as the role women should play in the church,, due to the fraility of our human understanding. But the central message in all these traditions is still the same in that Jesus Christ died for our sins and saved all of us who believe in Him. And although the Bible is the prime source for this central message, God can speak to us in many other ways as well. Now, what happens to those who aren’t Christians? I’m not sure, but you should investigate and study the non-Christian’s philosophy of life and belief, and see how it compares with that of Christianity to perhaps find out. Most belief systems do have much good in them, but do they contain as much truth in regard to this as Christianity does? I don’t think so, because no other belief system provides an adequate solution in how to handle sin the way Chrisitnity does. So whatever belief system you do choose, this will guide you in how you might want to live the rest of your spiritual life. But you really have to study all the belief systems in order to discover what suits you best. ABOUT CHRISTIAN LIFE AND DOCTRINE Most belief systems feel that a Perfect God could accept imperfect or sinful human beings into His Heavenly Kingdom, because, after all, He is Perfect and He can accept anybody He desires.. And those He desires are those on balance who are better benefactors than sinners. But the question remains, “Can Perfection ever accept imperfection, or sinners, into His Heavenly Kingdom? If God does, wouldn’t the sinners pollute His Kingdom. just as dirty water would pollute pure water. Many believe they wouldn’t, but if they would, Christianity has a way around this. Christianity says that God came down to earth in the person of Jesus Christ, mingled with humanity for awhile teaching them about God, died on the cross absorbing our imperfections or sinfulness within Himself, and finally was resurrected as Perfection after only 3 days.. And those who believe in this Jesus Christ have placed around themselves this perfection so that when God sees us He only sees His son, Jesus Christ. In other words, it’s like our being wrapped up like a Christmas present, with the wrapping being our belief in Jesus Christ, so that when God looks at us, He only sees the wrapping or Perfection (Jesus Christ), and not our own sinfulness. It’s similar to God looking into a mirror at Himself. We still remain sinners, but God really doesn’t see this. But as we put more and more of this wrapping around ourselves, the wrapping begins to seap more and more into our hearts, and as this happens we begin to change and become much more loving and forgiving. But you have to believe in Jesus Christ for this to happen and for you to enter into His Heavenly Kingdom. But what about those who don’t believe in Jesus Christ? Do they go to Hell as the Bible suggests? According to the Bible, Hell is described as a gruesome place, and nobody in their right mind would want to go there. And being such a gruesome place, it seems that only those who have committed the most horrendous sins should ever go there. This creates quite a dilema for the Christian belief, because we Christians believe that those who don’t believe in Jesus Christ go there, but we also believe that God is very fair and just, and that He wouldn’t just throw these non-believers into such a horrendous place as Hell if they’re basically good people. After all, they never committed such horrendous acts whereby they deserved such horrendous punishment. God must have provided another alternative for them. Perhaps a type of Purgatory for them after death. Or perhaps Jesus died for them on the cross also, even though they did not consciously know Him or were incapable of knowing him, such as infants retards, or mental incompetents but did God’s bidding anyway to the best of their ability. But to make sure that they’re accepted by God, we Christian should still continue to share our faith with others. Hell, as I see it, is really only for those who have commited horrendous acts, such as Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin, Sadam Hussein, unrepentent criminals or assassins, and the political suicide bombers . And God’s not really putting them there. They’re putting themselves there by their own free will of so much hate and cruelty. And at the end of time, according to the Book of Revelation, they will be totally destroyed by God. I was born in New York City in 1931, grew up on Long Island, graduated from Roanoke College in Virginia with a BA Degree in Political Science, and from New York Theological Seminary with a Masters Degree in Religious Education. I became a committed Christian in 1958, and after a number of years became a committed Ecumenical Christian. After my conversion though, my greatest sin of sexual obsession was greatly relieved by my discovering that being active in a social nudist (both sexes) camp for 3 years would do this for me. This changed my life most dramatically. In the secular world, I worked as an accountant in various companies for about 25 years in New York City, then moved down to Argentina and worked for about 23 years as a Business English conversationalist teacher with some of the top managers. I also became a Stephen Minister (trained counselor) while down here. Married twice (the last to an Argentine) widowed once, no children, one cat. You can contact me via (corbinwr@yahoo.com).
